TravelAge West Announces Its 2020 Editor’s Pick Award Recipients
MARCH 2, 2020 (Los Angeles) GREAT SAFARIS has been honored with a TravelAge West 2020 Editor’s Pick Award in the category of Best Tour Operator, Africa, as part of the TravelAge West WAVE (Western Agents’ Votes of Excellence) Awards.
Now in its fifteenth year, the goal of TravelAge West’s WAVE (Western Agents’ Vote of Excellence) Awards is to give travel advisors in the West the opportunity to recognize the outstanding qualities and services of their travel-supplier partners.
The Editor’s Picks were chosen by Editor-in-Chief Kenneth Shapiro and the entire editorial team of TravelAge West. Review methods included product analysis, on-site visits, a survey of a select group of travel advisors and online research.
With this distinction, Editor’s Pick honorees are also in the running for a WAVE Award, to be determined by a TravelAge West readers’ choice poll conducted during the month of April. The voting is open to readers of the print and online publication and will be available at www.TravelAgeWest.com/WAVE-Awards.
“A WAVE Award is one of the most coveted accolades in the travel industry,” said Ken Shapiro, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of TravelAge West. “It’s a way for travel advisors in the West to acknowledge the companies that support them. The companies represented at the WAVE Awards provide consistently superior experiences to travelers, which makes advisors trip-planning heroes to their clients.”
Editor’s Pick recipients will be celebrated at the WAVE Awards Gala on June 11 at The Ritz-Carlton, Marina Del Rey, in Marina del Rey, Calif., where the readers’ choice winners will be announced as well. TravelAge West will include a special WAVE Awards section in the July 13 issue, highlighting award winners.
“We are proud to have been selected by TravelAge West and the west coast Travel Agent Professionals, to be among the best operators for Africa.” Anne Bellamy, President

Great Safaris is a recipient of National Geographic Traveler’s 50 Tours of a Lifetime award, and a proud member of the United States Tour Operators Association, ASTA Tops, and ARC.
USTOA (United States Tours Operators Association) is considered by many to represent the cream of the crop of tour operators and there are reasons for that. The relatively small number of members must pass a very stringent set of entry requirements, the most daunting of which is a $1 million deposit that must be placed with the organization to show good faith and the financial wherewithal to weather the inevitable storms that periodically shake the travel industry. The $1 million deposit is held as insurance against a company failure. Great Safaris is an Active Member.
