Full Day Cape Point Tour

Full Day Cape Point tourDepart from your hotel this morning on our Full Day Cape Point tour as you commence your scheduled tour of the Cape Peninsula.  First, you will travel via the 12 Apostles and picturesque Hout Bay to Chapman’s Peak.  This is one of the region’s most dramatic mountain drives and offers amazing panoramic views over the city and environs.  Descend the mountain pass and continue on to the coastline. This strip of the peninsula’s shoreline, commonly known as the Atlantic Seaboard, stretches some 34 miles from the waters of Table Bay along the western coast to the nature reserve at Cape Point. The exceptional beaches and rugged mountains along this coastline not only make this a popular drive, but also provide outstanding views across the Atlantic Ocean, with some of the most spectacular sunsets in the world.

Full Day Cape Point tour Cape of Good HopeThe Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve comes to an end at majestic Cape Point.  Situated at the junction of two of earth’s most contrasting water masses – the cold Benguela current on the West Coast and the warm Agulhas current on the East Coast, the Cape of Good Hope is popularly perceived as the meeting point of the Atlantic and the Indian Oceans.  Guests will take the funicular to the vantage point from where they will be able to witness the “meeting of the two oceans”.

Our Full Day Cape Point tour include a visit to Boulders Beach, which is home to a colony of endangered jackass penguins in Simonstown.  Technically, these are African penguins, but early settlers thought that their braying sound was more like a four-footed pack animal than a two-footed bird!  You will also have the (optional – cost not included/at own expense) opportunity to visit the colony of seals on the aptly named Seal Island, before returning to your hotel in the late afternoon.

Full Day Cape Winelands Tour

Full Day Cape WInelands tour Klein Zalze vineyardOur Full Day Cape Winelands tour takes you to the Cape’s best wine estates including Stellenbosch, Paarl and Franschhoek. The delightful drive winds its way to the heart of the Cape winelands, through superb mountain ranges, vineyards and Cape Dutch homesteads.

The Full Day Cape Winelands tour commences heading north to one of the Cape’s first farming districts – Paarl.  The town is set at the foot of the cluster of remarkable granite domes from which it takes its name. Next is Franschhoek with a photo stop at Groot Drakenstein Prison where Nelson Mandela was released in February 1990. Franschhoek, nestled amongst the mountains, can easily be mistaken for a village in Switzerland. Franschhoek dates back to the 17th century when the French Huguenots arrived; billed as the Gourmet Capital of South Africa, this charming town, retains a French Huguenot style.

After a short tour of the little town, a second wine tasting will take place in Franschhoek, followed by a lunch stop (optional, on own account), and maybe a chance to try some of the fresh trout which Franschhoek is known for.

Full Day Cape Winelands tour Stellenbosch street cornerIn the afternoon our Full Day Cape Winelands tour continues over the Helshoogte Mountain Pass to Stellenbosch. It is easy to understand why Simon van der Stel decided to settle a village amongst the mountains. Stellenbosch is the heart of the South African wine industry, boasting great beauty and culture that is steeped in South African history. Walk down the canal-lined avenues, in the shade of giant oak trees and beautifully preserved historic buildings. Coffee shops, galleries, antique shops and wine bars spill onto the sidewalks. An air of quiet intellectualism and wine-making history abounds in this university town. With the sheer vastness of wine estates on offer, we are truly spoiled for choice when we enjoy our final wine tasting of the day in Stellenbosch, time permitting of course!
