Discovery Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia

Riyadh | Ha’il | Jubba | Al-Ula | Mada’in Saleh | Medina | Jeddah

Our Discovery Saudi Arabia tour embodies the most magical cultural highlights, and Riyadh is where the story of Saudi Arabia began. This is an ideal point from which to begin your exploration of the Kingdom. Characterized by gleaming skyscrapers and multi-lane highways, the Saudi capital sprawls across the Najdi plain and has a very modern face; but it is also home to history, museums, art and culture.

Discovery Saudi ArabiaCradled by the rugged mountains of the Jabal Shammar, visit Ha’il, dominated by the restored 17th century A’arif Castle, a mudbrick citadel that sits atop a strategic hill that can be seen for miles around.   The Discovery Saudi Arabia journey continues to Al-Ula, an area which will reveal one of Saudi Arabia’s most exceptional heritage sites. This oasis of great natural beauty is surrounded by wondrous terracotta-hued mountains. Your journey to Al-Ula is followed by a visit to Medina, the second most holy city in the Islamic world. Non-Muslims are not permitted to enter Medina’s central Haram area, where the main places of pilgrimage are located; but you can pass by sites such as Al Madinah Province, Al Masjid an Nabawi, Jannatul Baqi and many more.

The last stop for the Discovery Saudi Arabia tour is Jeddah, commonly known as the “bride of the Red Sea”, as it has for centuries been a gateway for the annual Hajj pilgrimage. For the western visitor, the highlight of any visit to Jeddah is exploring Al Balad – the city’s old quarter founded in the 7th century. On entering this UNESCO World Heritage Site, you are immediately taken by Al Balad’s unique architecture of towering houses built of coral stone with their distinctive latticed rawsheen balconies. Then, winding your way through an evocative rabbit warren of narrow lanes, you’ll be immersed in history as you explore the incense-infused souqs, traditional houses, and antique mosques, including the Shafi Masjid – the oldest in Jeddah. There is nothing quite like it in Saudi Arabia! For a taste of the modern city, take a stroll along Jeddah’s beautiful seafront promenade and admire the city’s iconic King Fadh Fountain – the tallest in the world.

Namibia Flying Safari – Tour Itinerary

Day 1 Arrive Windhoek (1 night)

Welcome to Windhoek! On arrival at Windhoek International Airport you will be met and assisted by a Great Safaris representative and transferred to your hotel.

The balance of the afternoon and evening is at leisure.

Day 2-3 Windhoek / Etosha (2 nights)

Wake up to your first morning under an African sun.  After a leisurely breakfast, you are collected and transferred to Eros Airport for the beginning of your wing adventure across Namibia.

Your flight takes you north to the border of Etosha National Park. The following days are devoted purely to game drives in search of the abundant wildlife found in the park, which surrounds a parched salt desert known as the Etosha Pan. The park is home to 4 of the Big Five – elephant, lion, leopard and rhino. Game viewing in the park is largely focused around the waterholes, an ideal places to sit and watch over 114 different game species, or for an avid birder, in excess of 340 bird species.

Day 4 Etosha / Damaraland  (1 night)

After a relaxed breakfast, the flight continues across the mountainous region of Damaraland to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Twyfelfontein. In the afternoon you join a local ranger to explore this spectacular semi-arid desert in search of the elusive desert elephants that roam this area.

Your lodge is situated in close vicinity to the geological attractions that are visited in the afternoon or during the morning of the next day. The highlight of these attractions, Twyfelfontein, represents Namibia’s Only World Heritage Site and belongs to one of the world’s largest rock-art sites. Enjoy a visit this afternoon or tomorrow morning before flying on to your nest destination.

Day 5-6 Damaraland / Swakopmund (2 nights)

Leaving the majestic mountain ranges far below, travel past Namibia’s highest mountain – the Brandberg and across endless desert plains to the coastal town of Swakopmund. The rest of the day is spent at leisure.

Swakopmund is often fondly referred to as the “playground of Namibia”, it has numerous activities, one of them being a catamaran cruise exploring the marine life around the lagoon and harbor of Walvis Bay. You may get a chance to see swooping pelicans, seals, dolphins and – during the season – even whales, sunfish and turtles!

Day 7-8 Swakopmund / Sossusvlei (2 nights)

Your flight takes off into the heart of the Namib desert at Sesriem, the gateway to Sossusvlei and Dead Vlei. The afternoon can be spent at leisure or on an optional nature drive exploring the desert surrounding your lodge.

The following morning demands an early start. Entering the Namib Naukluft National Park with the first rays of sunlight paint the mountains of sand into a variety of apricot, red and orange, contrasted against a crisp blue skyline. You will be captivated by the surreal Deadvlei surrounded by some of the highest dunes on earth and Sossusvlei, where the dry Tsauchab River ends abruptly amongst dunes. Take the opportunity to walk up one of these majestic dunes to admire the desert landscape beneath.

Day 9 Sossusvlei / Windhoek / Departure

After breakfast you fly back to Windhoek, arriving in the late morning. You are met on arrival, any stored luggage is returned to you and then you are transferred to Josea Kutako International Airport for the departure of your homebound flight.

Kenya Flying Safari Tour Itinerary

Nairobi | Amboseli | Samburu | Masai Mara

There is nothing quite like flying above the wildlife between camps and lodges over the wilds of East Africa on our Kenya Flying Safari – Kenya. This tour hits three wondrous and unique areas dedicated to game drives and an authentic experience.

Tour Length: 8 days

Classic Wing Safari Kenya zebra SamburuThe romance of an African safari was born in Kenya. Her seductive siren call bewitched such notables as Hemingway, Winston Churchill and Denys Finch Hatton. Nairobi today is a colorful tapestry woven with many ethnic groups, modern and colonial buildings, sleek Mercedes and dusty donkey carts. Here weary travelers can stretch out the kinks of air travel and replenish energies in anticipation of the safari.

Flying between game parks is the quickest (and kindest) way to travel and Amboseli is our first destination. This is a rich and wooded land where huge herds of elephant amble and leopards rest languidly in the treetops. When the clouds are kind, the snow clad peaks of Mt. Kilimanjaro can clearly be seen from the camps.

Classic Wing Safari Kenya mapAt the edge of Kenya’s arid northern reaches is Samburu… home to all the ‘big ones’ as well as some peculiar and rare species. The colorfully clad tribes people live the same lifestyle as their forbears and are endlessly eager to mingle with foreigners who visit their ancestral lands.

The safari drum roll reaches a crescendo at the Masai Mara, Kenya’s most spectacular game park. The wildlife is here aplenty: lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant, rhino… and daily safaris reward with close-up encounters. Here you can hop aboard a hot air balloon, in the soft hours of dawn, and marvel at the birds-eye view of the rolling savannah.

More time to explore? Consider adding a Tanzania extension, or a thrilling gorilla trek in Rwanda.

Day 4-5 Samburu (2 nights)
Wing north to meet the Samburu tribes people and experience exciting safaris in search of unique species. The reticulated giraffe and the delightful little long-necked gerenuk co-exist with lion prides and the elusive cheetah. The unpredictable Ewaso Ng’iro River winds through this dry land and is home to hippo, crocodile and a myriad of birdlife.

Day 6-7 Masai Mara (2 nights)
Ready for Kenya’s most famous reserve? Each glorious day begins with the promise of that perfect wildlife photo.
