We headed out on our first game drive into the vast and uninhabited Meru. The stillness of this magical landscape was occasionally punctuated by the sounds of wildlife. They were out of view, but oddly present; we felt a thousand eyes watching our progress through the savanna. As we rounded a bend, the roles abruptly changed. We were the watchers and spread out before us was a massive herd of wildebeest. Hundreds of zebra were woven through the tapestry. Giraffe to the left. A herd of elephant to our right. Lions roared. They would soon join the fray. Our first game drive!
